Yatzy
There’s always a lot of luck involved in any dice game but a great deal of strategy and planning is also required if you want to consistently be good at Yatzy. Roll the dice 3 times to get the highest-scoring combination in each of the categories available. The scoring chart contains 13 rows and is divided into upper and lower sections.
Depending on the best scoring option rolled, you must fill a box on each turn, and if your combination doesn’t fit any of the remaining options, you must sacrifice a category and score 0 points in it. The game is finished once all the boxes have been filled.
How to play Yatzy
The upper categories may seem a bit underwhelming, but if you manage to score a sum of 63 or more points in them, you’ll get a 35-point bonus, which is quite significant. Generally, you want to keep the dice with the highest-scoring combination in your hand after the first roll since you can switch them up if a more valuable opportunity arises.
It’s usually better to save the Chance for later and sometimes strategically sacrifice lower-value categories. When there are only a couple of boxes left to fill and the luck isn’t in your favor, save the ones with the better rolling odds for the final turn.
